I used to be a Microsoft Windows XP user and it took me fucking ages before I finally decided to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. But it opened my eyes... When I moved on to Mac, the first thing I did was installing my beloved Firefox, browsing the Internet for hours. Firefox was the one and only future, and most of all: it was free. Easy to use, never crashing, I fell in love with it and we started a passionate love affair. I was faithful and promised myself not to ever use any other web browser.

That was until today. Today I realised that my beloved Firefox is actually a stoopid piece of software that does not understand embedded color profiles, in three words it simply: fucks them up.

After spending about four hours calibrating my screen and reading about color profiles, I have come to realise that as much as I used to adore and cherish Firefox, maybe it is time for me to move on... and give Safari a try.

For all of you mac users that will not get convinced by this revelation, go have a look at this: WEB BROWSER COLOR MANAGEMENT Tutorial. Found it really useful and it made me realise why so many pictures look desaturated/washed out when viewed with web browsers such as Firefox, Camino etc. As for the others, well go check it out too. Because I said so. :aww:

I'm sorry Firefox, you served me well but all good things come to an end.

i dont care about colours meaning that the monitor calibration and so on are not crucial problems for me...

the clip-web is fantastic; it is one of the new features of safari for leopard.

Well I hate comments like: "Nice picture but the colors/tones are not vibrant enough" or "The tones are too warm" etc. When I upload a photo, I want it to look just like it does on my computer, the way I took it, or the way I edited it.
Dammit.

Am I psycho or something? I dunno, this all colour-alteration thing just makes me mad. :giggle:

hmm nono i dont think you are psycho. it just depends how much this thing affects you. i mean, i am a controller, my job doesnt bother art at all and photography is a hobby for me. so i can agree with you that when the tones in the print are not the same ones in the monitor. but maybe i would come up with saying " oh, shit happens " and there it ends. for you instead, studying and maybe working around art/photography/design, it could be more important for sure. eventually i'd say that i dont give it too much weight although i dont love it as you do. :P
by the way in a two weeks i will have an exhibition and perhaps i will agree with you then...

on another note are you leopardian so?

Firefox is still in my  somewhere but I have to say that Safari is just so much better when it comes to colour management. I'm just really used to FF I think, it's hard to move on you know. :p

hehe colourmanagment... not needed for surreal colours :)

Well even for surreal colours... I like my pictures to look the exact way I want them to look and I just hate it when a stupid web browser alters them. It's not about looking real, it's more about looking the way I want it to.
Or maybe I'm just mental... but everyone knows that. :hmm:
